How To Remove Shoe Polish From Carpets

A set of well-polished boots or shoes makes a fantastic first impression and could even be a work requirement (just ask anybody in the army ).  But, shoe polish leaves a mix blot with an oily/waxy component along with a dye stain.

    Washable Clothes

Don’t rub because that is only going to push the stain deeper into the fibers.

For washable fabrics, begin with treating the oily/waxy part of the blot with a pre-treater like Shout, or some other enzyme-based stain remover.  If you do not possess a pre-treater, use a little bit of liquid heavy duty detergent, like Tide or Persil or a paste made from powdered detergent and warm water to deal with the stain.  Utilize the detergent into the cloth, and rub the stain gently with a soft brush.  Allow it to work for 15 minutes then rinse in warm water.

Then wash the garment at the latest water acceptable for the cloth using detergent and also an all-fabric bleach to eliminate the dye at the blot.

When there’s still a hint of this shoe polish colour on the cloth, mix a solution of oxygen-based bleach (OxiClean, Nation rescue Bleach, or Purex 2 Color Safe Bleach are new names) and cool water.    Assess the blot.  When it’s gone, then wash as normal.  If it stays, combine an original solution and replicate.

    Dry-Clean Just Clothes

If the garment is tagged as dry-clean just, lift any solids away using a dull knife.  When you can, head into the dry cleaner and point out and establish the blot to your cleaner.

If the blot is small and you’re using a homemade cleaning kit, make sure you take care of the stain with the supplied stain remover prior to placing the garment at the kit’s drier bag.

    Carpet and Upholstery

When shoe polish reaches the carpeting, proceed as swiftly as possible to eliminate the stain.

This can keep the blot from becoming bigger.  Keep blotting until no more colour is moved from the carpeting to the fabric.

If you don’t own a dry cleaning solvent or carpet cleaning product, mix one tablespoon of hand soap in 2 cups of warm water.  Add 1 tablespoon household ammonia.

Make sure to”wash” the region with a cloth dipped in plain water to eliminate any soapy residue which will really attract additional dirt.  Repeat the cleanup steps until no more stain stays.

Vacuum when fully dry to raise any shattered fibers.

If the upholstery is vintage, call a professional cleaner or should you want more stain removal hints.
